STORY
By the 25th century, the World Nation Corporate Collective finally acknowledged the spiraling costs of fielding conventional armies to wage war had grown financially untenable. A new doctrine was conceived and ratified by WNCC members. Disputes between nations and their corporate entities would be settled through live-fire microconflicts held between autonomous bots at an extranational polar installation.
These drone battles would serve as microcosm simulations of both industrial factory production capability and raw technological prowess. Data derived from these skirmishes accurately predicted war outcomes, thereby rendering actual open warfare on the global stage superfluous, wasteful, and a political nonstarter.
An arms race soon accelerated at wintry bottom of the world, although the general populace remained oblivious of its scope and far-reaching shockwaves worldwide. Machine intelligence drones were eventually rendered obsolete by organic innovations in deep-invasive neural linking. Undergoing a process coined Mind Conscription, specially selected citizens became cybernetically fused with cutting-edge intraskeletons, wiped of self, and transformed into superhuman killing machines, perfectly allegiant to National and Corporate interest. Economic pressures and the new affordability of warmaking have driven mass production, leading to cascades of international/corporate conflicts that now erupt almost continuously.
Though the specific grievances predicating the endless proxy wars remain Classified, the duty towards private sovereignty and equity is a hard-encoded fact. The industrial complex of market competition presently allows many multiples of domestic unit counts to be deployed on the field. It will be up to skill, cunning, and sheer ruthlessness to secure victory on the unrelenting cold front.
